VSaoimhin Kelleher stole the show in the Carabao Cup final between liverpool and chelsea, leading the Reds to the title after his impressive performance throughout the game. The 23-year-old goalkeeper managed to keep a clean sheet before the duel went to penalties, when he stepped up to convert from the spot before seeing his chelsea counterpart Kepa Arrizabalaga sky kick her for liverpool to win the trophy.
Following his solid performance in goal, rumors have sprung up about his future as the talented shot-stopper is naturally behind Alisson Becker in Jurgen Kloppis the pecking order.
However, the German coach clarified that liverpool are not willing to sell the Irish goalkeeper anytime soon as the team need a talented player to replace Alisson if necessary.
“For young goalkeepers it is of course a question of development, and Caoimhin developed incredibly well here,â said Klopp.
“There is absolutely no intention of selling him or anything like that or giving him a loan. Not at all.
“We need a strong number two.
“Winning a trophy, will it help [us keep him]? You will need to ask Caoimhin this.”
Kelleher’s long-term deal with Liverpool
Kellerwho recently signed a new contract until 2026, could leave at some point in the future on loan to get more playing time, but Klopp is not ready to weaken his team by letting the youngster go if there is no quality replacement.
“He has a long-term contract here and we have a long-term plan with him, but of course we also want to help the boy become the best version of himself,” the coach said.
“That’s what we’ve done so far and that’s what we will continue to do as well.
“Maybe there will be a year when he has to go on loan, I’m not sure it will be next year or maybe a year later. It depends a bit on [young goalkeeper] Marcello [Pitaluga]he is already on the right track.
âWe have to judge this situation. Adrian is always there and does an amazing job. We will see.”
