B Capital Group has hired former Grab fundraising manager John Chua, while Value Partners Group has appointed James Ong as Southeast Asia head and Singapore CEO.
B Capital Group hires ex-Grab fundraiser
B Capital Group has hired former Grab fundraising chief John Chua to oversee portfolio capital formation for Asia, according to an announcement released Wednesday. Chua is based in Hong Kong.
According to Chua’s Linkedin profile, he will be responsible for assisting B Capital portfolio companies with fundraising, debt financing and other hybrid solutions. These will include financing as part of organic and inorganic growth through mergers and acquisitions (M&A) or joint ventures (JV).
B Capital’s portfolio capital formation team is led by partner Allen Duan and Arijit Sengupta, based in New York and Singapore, respectively.
Prior to B Capital, Chua worked for 10 months at Jeneration Group, where he participated in SPAC strategies and assessed growth investments in South East Asia in the technology space. Jeneration is a Chinese investment company with approximately $ 3 billion in assets.
Prior to that, Chua spent nearly two and a half years as Grab’s fundraising manager, where he was involved in fundraising, strategic partnerships, mergers and acquisitions, and investments. He led Grab’s Series H fundraiser of around $ 6 billion in equity during his time there.
B Capital is a venture capital firm founded in 2015 by Facebook founder Eduardo Saverin and Bain Capital veteran Raj Ganguly.
Value Partners appoints new Director for South East Asia
Asian asset management firm Value Partners Group has appointed James Ong as Singapore’s director and CEO for Southeast Asia, according to a statement.
Ong will lead institutional activities for South East Asia in his new role and will partner with Wallace Tsang, Value Partners’ group of intermediary companies to lead the group’s intermediary activities in the region. He reports to June Wong, president of Value Partners Group.
Previously, Ong was Managing Director and Head of Southeast Asia at State Street Global Advisors, where he oversaw the firm’s institutional and intermediary activities in the region. His previous positions include Client Director at HSBC Asset Management and Director at UOB Asset Management.
Value Partners Group is one of Asia’s largest asset managers with $ 10.7 billion in assets under management (AUM) according to its website. It is headquartered and listed in Hong Kong and maintains a global presence with offices in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, London, as well as a representative office in Beijing.
